Jamnagari Bandhani Saree

Jamnagari Bandhani Saree - A vibrant craft believed to have been introduced in Kachchh by a Sindhi fakir, later spreading to Jamnagar. Evidence of similar tie-dye textiles dates back to Mohenjodaro (2000 B.C.), and Bana, the court poet of King Harsha, praised the skill of women in this art.

  • The Technique: Fabric is intricately tied to create patterns, preventing dye from seeping into tied areas. Deeply rooted in the social customs of Gujarat, it’s practiced in Jamnagar and Kachchh.

  • Difference Between Gujarat & Rajasthan: In Gujarat, threads are tied using nails, creating tiny, intricate dots, while in Rajasthan, small tools are used, resulting in less elaborate designs.
